Case study

5 sections

Udemy is a global marketplace for online learning and teaching, where students master new skills by learning from a library of more than 55,000 courses taught by expert instructors. Anyone can become an instructor by signing up for a udemy.com account, and courses are available on both computer and mobile.

Use case

English translation

In this case study, the Udemy user is Putra. Udemy is an online course app with courses from mentors who join the platform. In the My Learning menu, the copy changes when you tap through the navigation, and the progress bar only shows a percentage — so Putra can't tell how many videos he still has to finish.

Scenario

English translation

Putra wants to know how many more videos he needs to finish in the course he bought, but the Udemy app only shows a percentage.

Problem

English translation

Udemy's copy is inconsistent: the navigation says "My learning", but the page title says "Courses". And the progress bar doesn't show Putra his progress in terms of videos.

User goal

English translation

Show learners their progress in a course, both as a percentage and as the number of videos they've watched.

Task

English translation

Help Putra see his progress, so he can estimate how much time to set aside to finish the course.
